Daily commuter route 2 (in German: Veloroute 2 or Radroute 2) starts at Hamburg's town hall and passes through Neustadt in an arc. It makes a right turn in Feldstraße and passes through the Schanzenviertel. After Christuskirche the route uses various side streets, which roughly run in parallel to the car-heavy Fruchtallee and Kieler Straße.
Following the route
There is no signage for this route. You'll need a satnav or learn the route by heart.
Comfort / Quality
All paths are suitable for all weather conditions. You'll ride mostly on asphalt, although there are some sections with flattened cobblestone.
Opinion
The route is so-so. As an adult, you're unlikely to run into issues and will have a decent travel despite the many traffic lights. Unfortunately most parts are not kid-friendly, like the already modernized Weidenallee.
Most common issue on the route are close passes by drivers and opposite car traffic reducing rider comfort. Only part of that is due to individual misbehaviour. Often it was lacking political will to properly reduce car traffic on this cycle route.
